More than 40 booths and 25 poster presentations have been booked since the beginning of October, an indication of the demand from suppliers, junior mining companies and others in the mining/exploration business.
This year's theme is New Ideas, Revisiting Past Discoveries. This rings true with many of the junior mining companies that are proving up resources and reserves, said OPA executive director Garry Clark.
"It (the property) is something old with new ideas," he said, providing several examples.
The Hammond Reef gold deposit, which dates back to 1895, was more recently developed and expanded by Brett Resources Inc., which was recently acquired by Osiska Mining Corp. Detour Gold Corp. has aggressively explored and developed Detour Lake, the former 1.8 million-ounce Placer Dome operation. Trelawney Mining and Exploration Inc. is busy exploring the Chester project, located 20 kilometres southwest of the town of Gogama, a property that holds an historic resource.
Twenty-nine speakers include resident geologists speaking on northeastern and northwetern Ontario's exploration. Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry staff will speak about the Mining Act and a host of juniors will be sharing their discoveries and progress.
On Tuesday after 3 p.m., the booths and poster presentations are open to the public. The awards dinner will take place that evening.
