Fifteen Northern Ontario-based mining supply and service companies had an opportunity to promote their products and services to the Nevada mining community October 28 to November 3 Nevada during a trade mission organized by ONE-DC, an economic development agency representing Northern Ontario’s five major cities, and Ontario’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

The Northern Ontario delegation flew to Salt Lake City on October 28th, toured the nearby Rio Tinto Kennecott open pit copper operation before heading to Elko, Winnemucca and Reno for several other mine tours and receptions to network with mine managers and procurement officials.

Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) staff travelled to Nevada in April to prepare for the mission and have worked closely with the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the Nevada Mining Association to expand ties between the two mining regions.

“Nevada has a number of suppliers but their communities are not the size of Sudbury or even Timmins, so our assessment is that there are some very good opportunities for Northern Ontario companies,” said GSDC business development officer Paul Reid.

The 15 companies participating in the mission include eight from Sudbury with the remainder from Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and North Bay.
