As of January 1, Ontario mining operations are subject to a number of new requirements flowing from recommendations of the Mining Health, Safety and Prevention Review (MHSPR) report released in April 2015.

Changes made to Regulation 854 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act require employers to complete risk assessments for all hazards, develop water management and traffic management programs and record seismic events.

Regulations that came into effect July 1 also require compliance with new high-visibility workwear rules, conveyor guarding practices and training programs for surface diamond drillers.

Hazard assessment templates are available from Workplace Safety North for ground control, occupational disease, water management, collision avoidance and worker fatigue.
