Glencore’s Kidd Mine in Timmins has been awarded a Towards Sustainable Mining Leadership Award by the Mining Association of Canada (MAC).

The award is given to operations that meet or exceed a Level A ranking for all indicators under the tailings management, energy use and GHG emissions management, Aboriginal and community outreach, biodiversity, conservation
management, and safety and health protocols, and meet all requirements of the crisis management and communications planning protocol. Eligibility is externally verified to qualify for the award.

“TSM’s requirements go well beyond regulatory obligations, and earning a TSM Leadership Award is a testament to their leadership in environmental protection and engagement with local and Indigenous communities,” said Pierre Gratton, president and CEO, MAC.

The Kidd Mine is only the third mining operation in Ontario to receive the association’s TSM Leadership Award.

“Kidd Operations has a long history of exemplifying leadership in health and safety, environmental sustainability and community engagement. We are proud to have been recognized by the Mining Association of Canada for our ongoing commitment to meeting and exceeding the criteria established for sustainable mining across all categories,” said Steve Badenhorst, general manager.
