Several Ontario mining suppliers will be participating in a mining mission to Australia and exhibiting at AIMEX 2013 in August.

The mission, organized by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment and the Ministry of Research and Innovation, runs from August 16 to 27, and includes networking events, pre-arranged meetings with key players in the Australian mining industry, as well as space within the Ontario pavilion at AIMEX.

Two Northern Ontario suppliers, HLS Hardline Solutions and Marcotte Mining and Machinery Services have agreed to participate.

The AIMEX show takes place in Sydney every two years, includes approximately 700 exhibitors and attracts 20,000 visitors from across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Australia is a leading player in the global mining industry with a valuation expected to grow to US$106.6 billion by 2017.

Suppliers interested in participating in the Australia mission should email [email protected] for further information. The participation fee for the mission is $1,500 per company.

The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines will be providing mining supply and service companies with several other opportunities to participate in trade shows this year, including Exponor in Antofagasta, Chile, June 17 – 2; Extemin 2013 in Arequipa, Peru, September 16 – 20; MAZMA 2013 in Bangalore, India, September 19 – 21; Minera 2013 in Medellin, Colombia, October 1 – 4 and Expomineria in Acapulco, Mexico, October 16 – 19.

The initial phase of the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines’ Export Assistance program covering export marketing expenses incurred by Northern Ontario suppliers ended March 31. Additional funding of $666,664 has been approved by the Ministry for a two-year extension of the program, but is on hold pending approval of matching funds from Fednor, which have yet to be approved.

In the meantime, suppliers participating in trade missions can apply to have 50 per cent of eligible export marketing costs covered by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Export Market Assistance program.
