Century Systems Technologies, a Sudbury-based a supplier of sophisticated geological data management and governance systems to the global mining industry, has been acquired by CAE Inc.
The acquisition builds on CAE’s expanding presence in the mining industry following its purchase of the Datamine Group in April 2010 and leverages CAE’s 60 years of experience in modelling, simulation and training.

Century Systems’ central data management solutions, along with its suite of integrated software applications, streamline exploration and mine operation processes for more than 80 companies in over 150 sites in 43 countries around the world. All solutions are designed to enable customers to adhere to best practices and guidelines established for mineral resource evaluation by national and international regulatory bodies.
Century Systems is based in Sudbury and employs 20 people. Its suite of software solutions includes DH Logger, a drillhole data capture and management application, as well as Sample Station, MineMapper 3D, Century LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and Fusion, a database solution allowing mining companies to store exploration data in a central repository.

The acquisition will enable CAE Mining to introduce simulation-based mine planning, scheduling and training to an industry for which safety is paramount and training costs are high.

The company’s entry into the mining industry is in keeping with plans announced in April 2009 to spend C$274 million over seven years to expand beyond the aerospace industry. CAE’s diversification targeting the mining, health care and heavy equipment industries was facilitated by a $100 million research and development contribution from the Quebec government.
