A symposium focused on developing the soft skills of workers in the mining industry is returning to Sudbury this fall.

Organizers have announced the Mining Engagement Conference for Advancement (MECA) symposium will take place online on Oct. 7.

Inaugurated in 2019, MECA steers away from the technical knowledge and skills required for the industry and instead puts the spotlight on traits like communication, teamwork and problem solving, universal skills that are beneficial across roles and companies.

A full schedule is still in development; however, the 2019 instalment featured a mix of workshops, plenary sessions and presentations by top industry experts.

The content was designed to be beneficial to anyone working in the mining industry – from miners and managers to safety professionals to teachers and consultants.

Registration for the event opens on Sept. 9.
