Northern Ontario’s mining service and supply cluster will return to the world’s premier mining show in 2023, thanks to support funding from FedNor.

On Nov. 17, FedNor Minister Patty Hajdu announced the federal government is providing $745,000 for the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS) to appear at the annual convention of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC).

The event, which is scheduled to take place March 5-8, 2023, is led by the City of Temiskaming Shores.

“The Northern Ontario Mining Showcase pavilion at PDAC 2023 will once again show the international community our region’s incredible mining supply and services sector,” Hajdu said in the release.

“This $745,000 FedNor investment will help the City of Temiskaming Shores maximize opportunities for participating businesses and organizations across Northern Ontario to network and promote their products to the world.

“Since its launch in 2015, this priority project has helped create over 750 jobs and generate more than $85 million in increased sales and exports.”

Held annually since 1932, the PDAC convention draws thousands of people from the world’s mining industry to discover new products and services, network with colleagues, and scout for clients and partners.

The Northern Ontario Mining Showcase is the show’s largest pavilion, with 110 mining service and supply companies from across Northern Ontario displaying their products across 13,000 square feet of display space.

According to the federal government, in 2023, the showcase is anticipated to help participating businesses increase sales and exports by more than $10 million, while creating 75 high-quality jobs in Northern Ontario and maintaining 100 more.

“I’m proud the City of Temiskaming Shores will once again be leading the charge to ensure NOMS remains a major driving force behind jobs, growth and business success here at home and across Northern Ontario,” Jeff Laferriere, mayor of Temiskaming Shores, said in a news release.

“Thanks to FedNor’s ongoing support, the pavilion has grown in size and scope to help as many businesses as possible realize the benefits NOMS delivers in the form of new partnerships, increased exports and profitability.”

In recent years, the showcase has expanded its reach, additionally participating in the annual convention of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).

Last August, FedNor announced $412,000 so the show can send a larger delegation to the 2023 event in Montreal next spring.
