Mining supply company Metso Outotec is closing its North Bay manufacturing plant by mid-2021, resulting in the loss of 65 jobs.
The Finish company announced its decision – a result of “restructuring” – in an Oct. 29 news release.
“We are continuously developing our global supply footprint to ensure sustainable and profitable growth,” said Sami Takaluoma, president of the company’s consumables division.
“To close a factory is a hard but necessary decision, and we realize that it will have implications on our employees. We will work to support them through the transition.”
Metso’s North Bay plant produces rubber and poly-met wear parts used in the mining industry.
The company describes itself as the “leading provider of rubber and poly-met mill lining with an extensive service network in all main mining markets."
Metso’s North Bay facility is one of 11 factories located around the globe. The company said it would rely on existing North and Central American manufacturing facilities to serve customers.
Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Metso Outotec employs more than 15,000 people in more than 50 countries. In 2019, it recorded sales of CAD$6.4 billion.
