Mining industry veteran joins Sudbury mine-tech team

Samantha Espley has joined the team at Sudbury mine-tech firm BESTECH.

The company made the announcement via social media on Oct. 29.

“We are excited to welcome Samantha Espley, P.Eng. to BESTECH as vice-president of mining transformation, bringing her depth of experience in innovation, engineering, and operations to our consulting services,” the company said.

Espley is a long-time industry veteran, who spent 30 years of her career at Vale in Sudbury, most recently as the director of mining technology and innovation, before retiring in October 2019.

She has taken on management roles in engineering, mine technical services, mining and milling operations, and technology.

Espley is also a vocal industry supporter, serving in a number of advocacy roles through her career, including with the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI), MIRARCO, the Canada Mining Innovation Council, Engineers Canada, Science North, and the Sudbury branches of Women in Science and Engineering and Professional Engineers Ontario.

She is currently the president of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), the national voice for the mining industry.
