Canadian Tradex hosts the Big Show in Timmins

One of the largest mining expos of its kind in Canada is being held once again June 4-7 in Timmins.

One of the largest mining expos of its kind in Canada is being held once again June 4-7 in Timmins. The activities will include live demonstrations of mining equipment and mining services, an education and job fair, an Aboriginal forum and investors’ forum. The Canadian Mining Expo will bring together mining companies from the most prolific gold and copper mining areas in Canada.

Glenn Gredhart, president of Canadian Trade-Ex, is proud about the evolution of this important trade show. “There are over 100 years of mining at our doorstep and the history of the area supports the continuing presence of a mining exposition that we have produced for over 24 years,” said Gredhart.

There will be more than 400 Northern Ontario and international manufacturers, suppliers and service groups on hand at the event exhibiting their newest product lines.

“Many of the exhibitors who attend the event use it as a launching pad to test the mining market in northern Canada.

They want to see if there is enough interest for them to set up shop in the region.”

Canadian Trade-Ex works with the CIM Porcupine Branch, the Porcupine Prospectors and Developers Association, the Porcupine Miners Memorial Committee and government bodies such as the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, Tourism Timmins, and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines as well as with the mines such as Goldcorp Porcupine Gold Mines, Agnico Eagle, Tahoe Resources, Kirkland Lake Gold, McEwen Mining and IAMGOLD.

The event is used to get the word out that Northern Ontario and Timmins are open for business.

Timmins has proven to be a true mining expo because of its location. It is one of the largest gatherings of mining equipment assembled in one place at one time that cannot be seen at any other mining event in Canada.  It has over 400 exhibits and draws over 7,000 attendees a year.

“There are many events during the trade show this year and we encourage all the exhibitors to make the most of their time in Timmins. They can have their annual meetings, sales meetings and meetings with their clients or just a night out with their potential and existing clients, said Dredhart.

Tom Laughren has attended many Canadian Mining Expos as mayor of Timmins and more recently as the director of community and social responsibility for Tahoe Resources.  “This is not just a Timmins event. This is a regional event,” he emphasized.

The Gala Dinner on June 6th is sponsored again this year by The Canadian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy’s Porcupine Branch and features talks by executives from some of Canada’s top mining companies, including Goldcorp, Noront Resources and IAMGOLD. It is the kick-off networking event for the expo and is used as a fundraiser for the CIM Porcupine Branch to support student bursaries. Canadian Trade-Ex has worked with many non-profit groups in the past such as the Porcupine Miners Memorial Committee, the Good Samaritan Inn, Next Step Farms, and H.O.P.E., raising over $150,000 to benefit local charities in Timmins.

Working with educational institutions in the Timmins area, it was decided to host an Explore Your Options in Mining career fair. Schools from northeastern Ontario will be bused to the event to participate in organized functions. Thirty plus exhibitors will set up displays in the McIntyre Ballroom on the Wednesday of the event during show hours.

The mining sector provides the largest employment opportunities for Canada’s Indigenous people estimated at nine per cent through jobs, service contracts and impact benefit agreements.

An added feature of the trade show this year is an informative seminar sponsored by the Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund. This is a limited seating event and is always sold out. Tickets can be acquired online. “Come and learn more at this informative seminar sponsored by the NADF,” said Brian Davey, the organization’s executive director.

If you are interested in investing in mining, you can attend the Northern Investment Forum and Lunch “where investors meet the players and learn about the properties!” See power point presentations from geologists and managers from advanced junior mining companies and major world class operating mines located in the Timmins area.

Back by popular demand and a way to show gratitude to miners in the area is the popular Jack Leg Drilling competition June 6th.
