Technica Mining has announced it’s launching a new surface mining and drilling division.

“We’re taking the company to a new level – the ground level,” CEO Mario Grossi said in a Nov. 17 news release.

The division will be led by Guy Charles, who’s been named Technica’s new superintendent of surface mining.

Charles has more than 25 years of experience in the surface mining and drilling industry, with specialty knowledge in close proximity blasting.

The company said plans are underway for an expansion of the Lively-based shop to accommodate a new fleet of drills and blasting equipment.

Since its launch two decades ago, the Sudbury-based mine contractor has specialized in underground mining and construction services, including underground construction, development and production services; shaft maintenance services; engineering; along with equipment rentals and mine financing.

Key projects on which it’s recently worked include Harte Gold’s White River project and Glencore’s Onaping Depth project in Sudbury.

Technica Mining is located in the Walden Industrial Park in Lively, an outlying community of Sudbury.
