Review of mining R&D in Ontario underway

The Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines has established a volunteer working committee to review the current state of the mining research and development landscape in the province.

The Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines has established a volunteer working committee to review the current state of the mining research and development landscape in the province.

The committee, chaired by NORCAT CEO Don Duval, includes representatives of the academic community, government, industry and research organizations.

A consulting company has been retained to “look at our existing infrastructure and resources, as well as other international jurisdictions or sectors to see what they do to support their cluster,” said Duval.

The consultants will also “provide insight as to what’s working well and where there are opportunities to enhance the overall working model.”

A report from the consultants will be due by the end of December or early January, and will be used to inform a refresh of the province’s mining strategy.
