Stantec, Cementation make Top 100 list

Two prominent mining service companies, Stantec and Cementation Canada, have been recognized as preferred employers for young people by Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition.

The distinction is given to employers who are leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations. Stantec was also recently recognized by Sudbury Mining Solutions Journal’s sister publication Northern Ontario Business as one of five top employers in Northern Ontario.

“Being named one of Canada’s top employers for young people is a fantastic achievement,” said senior vice-president Paul Allen.

“Our people are our most important competitive resource and this recognition shows that we are providing our young employees with the tools and opportunities they need to build long, successful careers with Stantec.”

Stantec was recognized for its mentorship program, formal leadership training, health benefits, flexible work hours and career planning services, including an online career development centre to help employees identify, plan for, and achieve their professional goals.

The company was earlier named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers by Canada’s Top 100 Employers, and one of the 10 best companies to work for by the Financial Post.

This is the fifth year North Bay-based mining contractor Cementation Canada has been named to the Top 100 list.

The annual competition is managed by Mediacorp Canada. Winners were announced in October by The Globe and Mail.

Mediacorp editors evaluate employers on eight key areas: physical workplace, work atmosphere, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement. The criteria identify organizations from across the country leading their industry in attracting and retaining employees.

“Since starting this company in 1998, we have been focused on being an employer of choice in our industry,” said Cementation president Roy Slack. “It is part of our mission and our corporate culture. The Top 100 competition allows us to compare what we are doing with the best employers in Canada. We are very proud to be listed among that group.”

Cementation Canada received high marks in the areas of training and development, and community involvement, as well as health and family-friendly benefits and financial benefits and compensation.

Cementation Canada is part of the global Cementation group owned by Murray & Roberts, a South African based engineering and construction company.
